FAQs
What to Expect
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can help if you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed, stressed, or simply looking for support and personal growth.
What can I expect during the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, personal history, and what you're hoping to gain from therapy. It's also a chance for both you and your therapist to determine whether the relationship feels like a good fit.
How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy varies based on your unique goals, needs, and circumstances. Some clients find that short-term support is enough to help them navigate a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. As you work with your therapist, new insights, patterns, or underlying concerns may emerge, creating opportunities for deeper healing and growth. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we will regularly assess your progress and goals along the way.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with biweekly sessions, though frequency can be adjusted to weekly or even monthly based on your needs and goals.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is an important part of the therapeutic process. What you share in therapy is kept confidential and will not be disclosed without your written permission.

Treatment is customized to each client's needs.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Virtual therapy can be a convenient and effective option for many people. It allows you to attend sessions from the comfort and privacy of your own home, office, or other secure location, eliminating travel time and making it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
Virtual therapy may be especially beneficial for individuals with demanding work schedules, transportation challenges, mobility limitations, health concerns, or caregiving responsibilities.
Virtual therapy also allows anyone who resides in AZ to be able to work with any of our wonderful therapists.
Do you work with individuals, couples, families, or children?
We work with individuals and couples.
Insurance & Payment
Do you accept insurance?
We accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Optum, and United Health.
What are your fees?
Your insurance plan will determine how much your copay will be. This is based on your plan and deductible. We also have a Private Pay option for those who don't have or don't want to use insurance. Those rates vary based on whether you are receiving Individual or Couples sessions, as well as who your therapist is. See our fees, here.
Do you offer superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
We can absolutely provide you with a Superbill for you to submit for reimbursement with your insurance provider. What we can't do is guarantee that your insurance provider will reimburse you.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Credit cards, debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, cash, and check.
Fit & Comfort
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of the counseling process. During your first few sessions, we'll explore your goals, concerns, and what you're hoping to gain from therapy. A strong therapeutic relationship is built on trust, comfort, and feeling understood. If you feel heard, respected, and supported, that's often a good sign we're a good fit. We encourage you to ask questions and be open about your needs so we can determine together whether our approach aligns with your goals.
What if I've never been to therapy before?
That's completely okay—many of our clients are new to therapy. Starting counseling can feel intimidating, but there's no "right" way to do it. Your therapist will guide you through the process, explain what to expect, and create a safe, judgment-free space for you to share at your own pace. The first session is typically focused on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and discussing what you'd like to achieve. You don't need to have all the answers before you begin; therapy is a place to explore them.
Can I switch therapists if it isn't a good fit?
Absolutely. Finding the right therapist is essential to making meaningful progress in therapy. If at any point you feel that your therapist isn't the best fit for your needs, we encourage you to let us know. It's okay - our therapists understand that success in your journey requires the right person at your side. Our team is committed to helping you find a provider whose style, experience, and approach better align with your goals. We want you to feel comfortable and supported throughout your counseling journey, and we're happy to help facilitate a transition to another therapist within our practice or to give recommendations to other therapists in the community when needed.
Do I Have to Be in Crisis to Start Therapy?
Not at all. Therapy isn’t only for times of crisis—it can also be a proactive way to support your mental and emotional well-being. Many people begin therapy because they want to better understand themselves, improve relationships, manage stress, build confidence, navigate life transitions, or develop healthier coping skills. You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to benefit from therapy. In fact, starting before a crisis can help you feel more equipped to handle challenges when they arise.
Will You Give Me Advice or Tell Me What to Do?
My role isn’t to tell you what decisions to make, but rather to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, values, and options in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. Together, we’ll work to uncover what feels right for you and strengthen your confidence in making choices that align with your goals. At times, I may offer insights, tools, education, or perspectives to consider, but therapy is ultimately a collaborative process that empowers you to create meaningful and lasting change.
How Will I Know If Therapy Is Working?
Therapy looks different for everyone, so progress can show up in many ways. You may notice that you're managing stress more effectively, feeling more confident, communicating more clearly, setting healthier boundaries, or responding to challenges with greater resilience. Sometimes progress feels dramatic, while other times it’s reflected in small but meaningful shifts over time. We’ll regularly check in on your goals and discuss what’s changing so you can recognize and celebrate the growth that’s happening throughout your therapy journey.
Practical Questions
How do I schedule an appointment?
Use our contact us form to reach out and we will get back to you within two business days, or give us a call at 520.885.1033 and Vanessa will be happy to talk to you about your scheduling options.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 48 hours' notice to cancel your appointment. With less than 48 hours' notice, we will bill you the full private pay amount, not your insurance co-pay. You will receive multiple text and/or email reminders prior to the 48 hour window to ensure you have plenty of time to change your appointment if needed.
Can I bring my kids with me to my appointment?
No. We do not have the capacity to provide supervision of your children while you are in your therapy appointment, and you will not receive the full benefit of therapy if you are distracted by caring for your kids.
